Shayne Shalome | Singer - Songwriter
Who is Shayne Shalome?
I'm just an 18-year-old girl from the Metro Detroit area that's trying to break into the R&B industry. If you were to ask my friends and family, they would tell you that I'm big on loyalty. I'm the home-girl in the room. You could put me with the dudes on the block or the folks in the suburbs and I'll still stand out amongst the crowd.
Did singing come naturally or was it something you had to build upon over the years?
I was definitely running around the house singing all the time. I loved to be on stage and be the center of attention, so it was natural for me to want to sing. Over the years, I've also received vocal training, so I could grow [technically and creatively] as an artist.
Explain the process behind your first EP, To Whom It May Concern.
For To Whom It May Concern, my co-writer and I built the EP off of pure, organic conversations. We would sit down over a beat and talk about the real-life experiences that I was going through. As a teenager, you're just now getting your first experiences with love and heartbreak so that's what the EP was created from. We took those conversations we had and produced some great music that everyone could relate to.
What advice could you give someone who wants to pursue a singing career?
I would tell someone to make sure this is the passion that you truly want to pursue. If you don't have the heart and drive for this, then it's going to be hard to pursue this. Being a creative isn't easy at all. You don't always get the support you need, and things tend to move slow, but you must develop patience because everything isn't always going to be immediate. Consistency, patience, and trusting the process are the three things you need to pursue a singing career or any career in the arts.
How do you plan to expand the brand of Shayne Shalome?
Honestly, I always want to continue to be authentic and relatable. I want to be that home-girl that provides the soundtrack your life. And with the support from the fans and remaining consistent, these things will help expand my brand as an artist.
